Variant Management - Store Variants on Backend

Hi guys,

unfortunately there is very little information on the UI5 variant management.

I found no information at all about the saving of the variants on the backend.

Therefore, a question for you:

Is there a way to use the SAP standard for the variant management on the backend? For example to reuse the ALV variant management for SAPUI5?

Or do we really have to create an OData Entityset, all required service implementations (get, create, update, delete) and a Z-table for every variant in our applications? That would be a total nightmare

Any ideas?
